RED MITE!!!
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:57 »
I have had the dreaded mite over the weekend :tongue2:  I was DESPERATE as was feeling very under the weather, and there they were suddenly.  I could not believe that there were so many!  I moved my girls into temporary accommodation after well coating with red mite powder, then I scrubbed everything with JEYES, still they were running around!  In desperation I painted the whole of the outside with creocote as I had some in the shed and the little blighters ran outside onto the wet coating.  I just painted over them... they did not survive ;)  I did not paint the inside... I have ordered some poultry shield (cannot get any locally) and will do the house with that.
QUESTION PLEASE;  can anyone please tell me how long I should leave the house before letting my girls back in???  I painted on Saturday but there is still quite a strong smell of creocote

CREOCOTE smells it was always the case when I USED it.  I do not use it any more because it has been banned for personnel use because of its carcinogenic properties.
In the future try Milbenex.

you can purchase it fromhttp://www.bowdenandknights.com

Milbenex is licensed for use with poultry and there is a residual effect i.e. if a new red mite comes in to contact with the treated area it will be killed by Milbenex.

I have been using Milbenex for about 3 years now, and never had a red mite problem where I have used it. Just sprayed a shed today and not one crawled out! sorted!!! :D

You've got in a mix there Ruff.

Brambles said they were using Creocote not Creosote.

Creocote is a wood treatment for fences etc. and anyone can use it.

I don't know that it would have much effect on red mite though.

It has a residue effect, therefore stays on/in the wood and kills any red spider mite moving into mite free coops.
