very odd powder on my Comfrey plants
« on: June 26, 2012, 19:11 »
Not sure how important this is -- my well established and usually very green comfrey plants are showing a light orange powder on the underside of the lower leaves - looks like rust for want of a better word but not spotted around as rust is on leeks or onions/garlic etc - does anyone know if this is going to be a problem and if so what action is required please. I mainly use comfrey as a liquid feed producer and surplus goes in the compost heap to break up the usual mass of lawn cuttings.
Many thanks

"Disease: Comfrey Rust (Melampsorella symphyti) is the biggest problem with comfrey. If you see rust starting immediately remove any infested leaves and destroy. Give the plants  a good dose of potassium like some wood ashes. Follow with a good organic fertilizer. Allow ample space for air movement among the plants"
