hello,newbie allotment advice apple trees

 :) Hello I'm new to allotment growing and have inherited an allotment with 2 apple trees on , a neighbour has told me they are cider apple trees. Im thinking ill have to chop them down as i will have no use for them. However i dont really want to lop them unless i really need to. How can i tell what sort of apples they

NO don't do it !!!!!!!!!! - The best way to tell what they are is by the fruit and even that's not an exact science. If when the trees fruit and they are cider apples and you don't have a use for them unless they're huge trees you can "easily" graft them over to apples you do like in the autumn or next spring. Being established trees you'll have a head start on fruit production.

If you don't like apples that a different thing (but then who doesn't like an apple pie  :tongue2: )

Take care if you eventually decide to remove the trees. You'll find that there are such things as suckers from the roots. Lopping down trees doesn't give you more workable space with the roots still in the ground.
