poultry spice- how much to give
« on: November 22, 2009, 11:17 »
I have just bought some poultry spice as my chooks are still moulting and it says to give 1 tsp for every 10 birds in their usual wet or dry mash.

I only have 3 bantams and give them pellets not mash.

How much do you think I should give them and is it ok to just mix it in with pellets?

Thanks  :).

I have 8 girls and I give them roughly three quartes of a spoonful and i mix it in with their treats ie mashed potato or pasta and they love it. They would have your arm off to get at it.

For four hens I have given about a 1/3 teaspoon.  I find on dry layers pellets it doesn't stick and just sits at the bottom of the feeder and is wasted, so I mix part of their dry pellet ration with hot water when I feed them at the beginning of the day and mix the poultry spice in with this - a small bowlful soon disappears! :D

Hi on the tub that I have it says one tespoon for every twenty birds, I mix a little codliver oil in with the pellets that helps it to stick or else it all drops to the bottom of the feeder and gets wasted,

I use a level teaspoon mixed into their afternoon treat of corn, which I usually bulk up with wet mash, so the whole lot disappears in no time, and I can be sure they all get a share.

Thanks everyone:)
.
So it sounds like I need to use about one third of a teaspoon and mix it in with some of their pellets mashed up with hot water :)

Do you all give it constantly or just at times of stress, moulting etc? Our girls have been having it for a while now and I'm not sure if I should give it continually?

Hi , we have 4 chicks and I give about half a teaspoon, I usually mix it with bio yoghurt and cod liver oil, and a small handful of mash , just to make it easier to peck, I also add a little garlic occasionally, Chicken heaven !  :)
