wood chip in rabbit run?
« on: October 11, 2009, 15:14 »
I have 2 rabbits in an eglu hutch with an extended run.  One of the rabbits is an amazing digger so I have mesh on the run floor.  Would it be ok to put wood or bark chips on the floor to give them something to dig around in?

they did used to free range in the garden, but one of them can dig longer than her own length in half an hour!!!!!

I added wood chips and around the edges pebbles to try to stop them digging out all the time. Every day i would have to recapture the little angels, I now have them as two house rabbits (they have litter trained quicker than kittens, amazing really!) ::)

No problem with them digging out now cos of the netting but I thought chippings might be nicer for them....

Rabbits love to dig different textures. Mine do love digging in chippings so I'd pop some in for them. When I let them outside at the weekend they love being in the chickens chipping piles digging about. They also liked it when I have sand dust baths for the chickens to dig at, oh and my potted plants on the patio are their favorites  ::).

Omlet sell a sturdy mesh to put on the floor of the run... it is useless!!! the squares are too big...our rabbit could dig between the mesh! I had visions of them being suspended on the mesh over a big hole one morning!!!
