Anyone had this rotten cold?
« on: January 09, 2020, 13:53 »
I had my 'flu' jabs in late November as you do and all was well until after Christmas then I started with a tickly cough and a runny nose. Ah, it's just a little cold methinks? Wrong! I don't think I've ever felt so rough since I had the proper 'flu' many years ago. Went to my GP for something else but I've got an upper airway infection that will take some time to go away. Anyone else had this?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I've had it GG, and it's extremely unpleasant. The problem is that, after I thought I'd finally recovered from it (five weeks later from the beginning), it's coming back again.  Not as severe, but quite a bad one. You'll no doubt start feeling very tired because it seems to knock all the stuffing out of you. As you say, it's almost 'flu, but as it's still possible to get on your feet it's obviously "just" a cold.  I've only ever had 'flu once, and I couldn't get out of bed for a few days, and was in so much pain I couldn't do anything. Anybody who is upright and walking about while telling you that they have 'flu are very much mistaken.
Chin up, it DOES get better gradually, a day at a time, but it is frustrating when you can't get to do the things that need to be done.  Look on it as an enforced rest.

Yep my hubby has had it since the middle of October & our 18mth grandson has had it & he’s been really poorly with it, he got blue lighted to hospital early one morning because his breathing was so bad. He’s finally better now but lost so much weight, about 1/2 st which is a 1/4 of his body weight  :(

Same as Jay, the good lady and I had it just before Christmas and it was a stinker, really knocked us about. Had a few more 'aftershocks' since as well.

both the wife and had a flue jab  before Christmas and within days we had a throat infection including a very chesty rotten cold and cough this went on all over Christmas for both of us

and yes it brought us to our knees couldn't  sleep properly its took around five  weeks of taking one thing or another to actually get us  back to something like normal and I still have a silly cough and feel lethargic also just beginning to enjoy food lempsip was the only think that seemed to help

for those of you that still have this rotten cold I wish you a speedy recovery all I'm going to say is bring on the spring weather

Two good chums here got it over Christmas.

It was a real b****r and knocked them about for a few days, but it clears up very quickly so just lay back and think of England - you'll be fine!

I've had blocked sinus/face ache and sore throat since just after Christmas, not enough to knock me off my feet but making me feel low in spirits, as well :(

Mum developed bronchitis about 10 days before Christmas.  She's perking up now, having had anti-Bs and steroids to help with the wheezing, but it's likely to take a while longer before she's fully back to strength.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'm currently enduring quite an active cold, which I probably picked up from the wide choice freely available when we went to the Christmas panto last Sunday at the City Hall.

Absolutely no 'upside' to colds - at any one time there are around 100 to choose from, and yes, you can catch more than one at once, and no, they keep mutating so you can't even console yourself with the thought you will at least have some immunity against the next one.  :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

It really does knock the stuffing out of you both physically and mentally. I've managed to have a bit of soup this last couple of days but am going to try some fish in parsley sauce with a piece of buttered bread tonight. I hope you all feel better soon.

I swear that sometimes the anti-flu jab gives folks a mild dose of it. Husband who had a variety of ailments as was reacted so badly the year he had his that the surgery refused to treat him thereafter.

Methinks it just may be starting to clear up as I'm not using as many tissues as I woz but now comes the funny bit. All I fancy for my evening meals are a variable combination of boiled or chipped pots, tinned baked beans with a bit of melted butter, scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, tarragon, two or three good spirts of barbeque sauce or a mix of that whipped up with some salad cream to make an instant prawn cocktail sauce, boil-in-the-bag fish (yuk but it does the job) and for some weird reason a bag of Hula-Hoops. What is my body trying to tell me? All replies whether rude or not will be answered in the morning.  :tongue2:
