Leek question
« on: July 04, 2010, 21:35 »
I have got some Leeks in my cat litter tray.  I was hoping to put these into the first early potato bed, but these haven't been dug out enough yet as they seemed so poor I let them grow longer.

So now the question is, I have a little room left for my leeks but how do I prepare the ground if no manure has been put in since last year.  I can get hold of well rotted horse manure, so should I get some and dig that in first?

Our plot had been unused for a couple of years so we have just dug growmore in everywhere.  With the leeks we have popped a few granules into the hole and then dropped the leek in.  The first planting is roaring away.

Don't plant out your leeks until you have made room when you've dug up your potatoes.
There's no rush. The leeks will wait quite happily.
Don't worry about manure. Freshly manured soil is not good for leeks.
If the soil was manured last year then that will be fine.

The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.
