albino beetroot
« on: July 02, 2017, 22:26 »
A strange occurance has happened to my normaly spot on bolt hardy beetroot.
I sowed two rows on different beds on my plot. One row is normal and lovely beets they are. The second has white beet amongst it. Also it was the same packet of seed from DT Brown.
Both beds were prepaired exactly the same. Rough dug during the autumn incorperating well rotted Horse poo.
Rotorvated at sowing time as per normal. Watered at the same time with just two weeks in between sowing.
Any clues Folks and folkesses???
May the fork be with you

Perhaps the white seed is heavier/lighter and they came out of the packet in weight order IYKWIM.
Other than that passing thought, I've no idea

Exactly the same has happened to me this year with Boltardy seed. The 'white' beet taste about the same when cooked, but the colour makes them less appetising. Their leaves are subtly different as well....

It's the red stuff in beetroot that does you good!
