I was going to post an enquiry about what size bindweed roots need to be to start growing a new plant... Well I answered my question today...
I dug over the whole plot and finished a couple of weeks ago. Today I was planting some cabbages and I dug out a small Bindweed plant as I dug the hole. To my amazement the new plant was growing from a piece of root i obviously missed when digging... The root is only 40mm long!!
So anyone wanting to rotavate a bad weedy plot beware!!

I have resorted to round up on the thistles as I cannot dig the roots out, even two feet down... up the come again, sometimes in a little thicket (yuck!)

Don't forget docks.

Brian dug up a big bit of my veg garden to get rid of the thistles, I told him they will still grow from tiny bits of root. I go out there every few days now and dig some up, but all I will be able to do soon is to keep hoeing as my runner beans are on some of that area and my peas are going on it. My broad beans are there too!

I've got a bit of plot where old black currants have come out. Been carefully dug twice and bindweed still popping up here and there ::)
The bits sticking their heads up are getting Resolva and then I am planting courgettes and squashes there to smother anything else :lol:

Year before last the bindweed made their way to the light around the massive courgette leaves.... keep at 'em New Shoot :)

If you've ever seen a time lapsed film of climbing plants growing (like one of the David Attenborough series), the growing tip seems to swing around erratically until it comes in contact with something then winds itself round it and uses that to climb up.

Bindweed is a nuisance but you see it pretty quickly and can grab it.
Creeping buttercup is my weedy nemesis - that also has lots of roots and doesn't take much for the plant to take hold again! :tongue2:

It's the damned bramble roots around the edge of the plot which keep literally tripping me up. The blighters are everywhere and my feet keep getting hooked in them.
