Are there better Autumn raspberries than Autumn Bliss?

I have a row of Autumn Bliss which derive from offshoots of a neighbours thicket. They yield reasonably but are on the small size. The birds do not take them and I do not want to build a cage.

Are there better Autumn raspberries that have bigger fruit and are less likely to take over my plot?

I have Joan J which is nice, but does have the tendency to spread far and wide.
I think they all do unless you put a barrier around their bed  :(

Last year I planted Polka and got good harvest in the first year, this year I had a few fruit from early July and am getting a lot now. Large fruit with excellent taste, but quite soft and need to be eaten in 2 days of picking.

I'm with Mumofstig - I have Joan J - lovely large sweet raspberries.  I have them in a raised bed. And currently I have many of them - way too many.  :tongue2:

Maybe you should look at why your Autumn Bliss are small, rather than replace them. Mine are huge and I'm extremely happy with them.

You could replace them and still end up with small fruit if the problem does not lie with the variety.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

On a raspberry theme . My sister gave me some for the back garden and didn't know what they were ( summer or autumn fruiting) if they are fruiting now could that be they are summer fruiting or are we into autumn? They are really good - not as good as the ones DD provided some time back  but I would hate to chop them at the wrong time.

I would hate to chop them at the wrong time.

Cut off any cane that has spent fruit on it - i.e. the bit left behind when you pull the fruit off.  Do that anytime between when it finishes fruiting and the depths of winter.

For Summer varieties you'll be leaving behind canes that will fruit next year, and for Autumn varieties you'll be leaving behind nothing.

I've got mainly Autumn Bliss, and there is a huge difference in taste between nearly ripe and nearly-falling-off purple-coloured ripe. Delicious!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I hope my lottie neighbours have rembered to pick mine whilst I'm away, otherwise they'll be nearly black, fallen off, not quite so delicious raspberries.

Note to self: time your holidays better in future.
