One year , my boys made some tree decorations using Fimo for their teachers ( they can be a bit wary of food, although they trusted the sweets we used to make as I used to help out and cook with the children)  They did a snowman and a couple of Santas.  They all thought they were wonderful and think of my boys each Christmas when they get them out ( or so they say, but they did take ages and were rather good).
Last year they made their uncle a festive cake ( and posted it to the UK! ) and grandparents each had sweets.
Another nice pressie is a hyacinth bulb, perhaps in a hand painted pot, doesn't look much on the day, but lovely in the spring!

a mean Scotsman, a whining Welshman, an arrogant Englishman and a violent Irishman walked into a pub.  They couldn't remember whose turn it was to get offended so they just had a good time together instead, whingeing about the underhanded French.

This isn't about frugal presents hamstergbert.

and we try to avoid jokes of this vein as, despite what some might think, there are members who are offended by any making jokes out of their ethnicity, so please don't.

I've tried to ask nicely  :)

Sort of back on topic, My family (who I will add are all adults) put a limit of £5 per person - its amazing when you look what you can get, sometimes of an amusing nature.  It also means no one feels awkward as you have all spent the same.  :D
My sister and her husband always make each other cards, which can prove amusing as he is a good artist and perfectionist and she is the opposite!!
Anyway, I refuse to speak of the subject until after Mr Raven's 40th in the second week of December!
The glass is neither half empty or half full - it is simply the incorrect size! Find a new glass!

When i was young everybody had presents from friends and relatives that had been made or prepared by themselves. For instance your Gran or Aunt would always knit relatives jumpers/scarves etc. OK they weren't always "trendy" :D but most were gratefully recieved ..........is this not suitable for today?

Also there was always one family member who would buy sacks and sacks of pickling onions and make jars for all the family. they were always in demand initially and very addictive but i remember caused a lot of air pollution :)
