I love growing peas, especially unusual varieties, ive just bought carouby de mussane, which is technically a mange tout variety (off of an auction site), and ive just looked and there is another variety called 'Zircon', you only get around 100 seeds, but they have beautiful flowers and seem quite rare - so have any of you grown these before?
-
Carouby de Maussane is a heritage variety but is readily available in mainstream catalogues. I was surprised how tall it grows but it has pretty flowers ;)

Zircon seems to be a new variety, but looks pretty much like Carouby, just shorter .....

Good luck with them :)

Do not tempt me with any more peas!
You may not believe this, but I've not bought any peas this year!

You're right, I don't!!

DD have you ever grown either of the varieties?
-
Sorry, no.
I don't do a lot of mange tout varieties.
-
ok thanks anyway - im also looking at heritage pea varieties like lincoln etc too. hmm i need more space.
-
Lincoln is another pea that's in lots of mainstream catalogues, so not unusual ;)
-

You'll only get the really rare ones if you swallow hard and join the HSL!

I'm going to try Blauwschokker, a blue podded marrowfat from Germany. C de M is excellent by the way.
-
yeh ive seen the purple/blue podded peas on an auction site and have been wondering whether or not to order them - but i will. ;) i was also going to ask about them but i wasn't going to try and spell the variety from memory

I grew Carouby mange tout last year and I really liked it. Because they're tall you get a big crop for not too much space, the flowers are lovely and the pods delicious.
