Title: unusual pea varieties
Post by: mattwragg94 on April 05, 2012, 14:43: I love growing peas, especially unusual varieties, ive just bought carouby de mussane, which is technically a mange tout variety (off of an auction site), and ive just looked and there is another variety called 'Zircon', you only get around 100 seeds, but they have beautiful flowers and seem quite rare - so have any of you grown these before?

Post by: mumofstig on April 05, 2012, 16:25: Carouby de Maussane is a heritage variety but is readily available in mainstream catalogues. I was surprised how tall it grows but it has pretty flowers ;)

Zircon seems to be a new variety, but looks pretty much like Carouby, just shorter .....

I'm going to try Blauwschokker, a blue podded marrowfat from Germany. C de M is excellent by the way.

Post by: mattwragg94 on April 05, 2012, 18:37: yeh ive seen the purple/blue podded peas on an auction site and have been wondering whether or not to order them - but i will. ;) i was also going to ask about them but i wasn't going to try and spell the variety from memory :lol:

Post by: shokkyy on April 05, 2012, 19:19: I grew Carouby mange tout last year and I really liked it. Because they're tall you get a big crop for not too much space, the flowers are lovely and the pods delicious.
