I love lottie
« on: October 28, 2007, 21:42 »
My first year growing stuff. Exercise and fresh air. Hard physical work. Main  reason for starting. Needed to do some exercise.
Couldn't do the gym thing. Staring at young tottie bending over. Where's the pleasure in that?
Definitely getting old.
However, I think that getting an allotment is one of the best things I've ever done.
The family are eating my food. There's lots of pleasure in that.
The smell of fresh veg. The taste of fresh veg.
It is not possible to explain to people the difference between what you grow and what you can buy.
Mainly the smell for me.
The missus has just said she enjoys preparing and cooking more now because the taste and scent are much better. Satisfaction.
Unlike the stones I get plenty from my lottie.
This year the produce has been fantastic. Can I keep it up?
I'll try.
I know why I got mine  but why did you get yours?
Love Pat

I haven't got a lottie pat, just my big garden, but I agree with you about the smell, the taste and the crispness of growing and using fresh home grown veg.

But its not always easy to explain this to none growers is it?  My brother can't understand why I would want to grow my own potatoes when I live in the fens, the home of the tatty!!!!  Or why do I go through all the trouble of keeping chooks for eggs, when they are soooo cheap in the supermarket?

But his wife grows what she can in the bit of garden she has left after they've got their bit of lawn, pond, shed, hard standing for the car, and she does blooming marvellous, but she doesn't have a lot of room for things like tatties, and he enjoys eating what she grows!!!!! lol

Heart warming lines there Patrick, I wish you can keep it up for many more years. :D

I should think, most of us got ours for fairly similar reasons.

Yes the allotment's a bit like a gym for older people - except with the sight of old people like me bending over!
