Thanks Casey - that makes it an easier decision.  So the cardboard is for the compost heap - will just have to tell hubby to pee on it - they tell me that's best  :ohmy:

I also use cardboard, flattened cartons and thick newspaper to put on the garden path and then cover it with a couple of inches or more of sawdust. Lovely to walk on. I get the sawdust from a dairy close by. They change it every three weeks.

I've used hemcore once, unfortunately it is twice the price of my normal litter so I won't be buying it very often, but I found it very nice.  It has a very pleasant smell, and I didn't find it dusty.

Aubiose is a hemp bedding and is similar to if not the same as hemcore. They are a French company and it is grown in the Champagne region - this may be easier to source and possibly cheaper for you :)

I was told that you damp down a hemp bed for horses to make it ready to absorb moisture and to create a more 'stable' bed :)
