Hello.

Does anyone know where I could get some in the middlesbrough/NE area? Been looking for some for ages now :)

Cheers

Hi Mark - I bought mine on eBay last year - there's loads listed. Have a look

good luck ::)
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Can you use it for protectioon from butterflies, would this be the cheaper option for the netting?

thanks I was hoping for some cheap 2nd hand stuff to be honest :D

You can use it for protecting anything. I normally use fleece but it tears easily.

I have found Debris Netting - 2M x 50M - Green    £22.85 plus a fiver P&P.

Yes and Yes (probably).

Won't keep carrot fly off ... but works for pigeons/etc. and butterflys (some people say that the occasional one gets in, but I haven't seen any that managed it).

They can lay their eggs through it - so keep it clear of the crop once it has grown tall.

Its what scaffolders put around their scaffolding to stop anything falling.  Tough, finely woven (thus holes small enough to stop butterflys getting through).

Only down sides is that it has eyelets (presumably to allow scaffolding poles though). I haven't sowed mine up ... some people do ...

By my calculation its way cheaper than buying netting sold for gardening use ... particularly if you can blag some used stuff off a building site!

P.S. I bought "green" thinking that would blend in ... its more like Turquoise and sticks out like a sore thumb :( so Black may be a better choice

I was worrying about debris netting cutting too much of the light and was thinking that yellow netting would be the lightest.

But OH has a theory that as leaves are green, that is the wavelength that plants reflect rather than use as absorbed energy.  So green netting wont cut the light they use, but blue or black or yellow would as they reflect back out the light the plants use and would therefore reduce the useful light for photosynthesis.   ???  Not sure I buy it.  What do you think?

I was worried about that too ... all I can say is that I had Debris netting on my Sprouts from the day they were planted (May at a guess) until they finished - March maybe? and they were just the same size as the previous year (when I had managed to escape the butterflys, with a bit of hand-murdering!
