Three weeks ago today we picked up three little blue eggs from Joyfull. Our broody hen was a real star and she had already been broody for about 2 weeks but she very dutifully sat on these three little eggs. Lo and behold yesterday as I lifted her out as usual for a feed and water break there was one little chick, still wet so only just hatched, and by lunchtime at the second break there was another so we had two little pale grey bundles of fluff. Nothing happened with the third egg and we did candle it but could see nothing there but two out of three is really good. Thank you Joyfull see pics below

You are both most welcome to come over and see all our chickens at any time but do make sure we are here first, we don't want to miss you. Our Bovan (I hope thats right Grannie lol) browns are now in with the big girls and are settling in and they have plenty of space and plenty of food and water places to keep away from any aggro. They are a bit like naughty teenagers at the moment, dashing about here and there and climbing over the numerous logs and climbing up the bank. The exchequer leghorns we still have separate but they will be moving soon to a patch of ground that runs next to the big pen so they can all get used to them before they move in. So all is good here at the moment. :D

I don’t think it was mentioned at the start of this thread but the day we called in to see joyfull we were also going on to Grannie Annies to pick up six bovan browns. We had a chat with Joy and she kindly gave Sue anne the araucana eggs to put under her broody hen. Next we all went off down to Grannie Annies to pick up the chooks. Sue Anne took a fancy to the leghorns so three of them were popped into the box as well.
I put them all in a pen next to our old girls but the bovans soon started pecking the younger leghorns, I made a hasty pen and split then up to give the leghorns time to grow up and get stronger.
The araucana chicks are three and a half weeks old now and have taken over the leghorn pen.

The leghorns have been put into the bovan browns pen next to the old girls for the first stage of the integration process.

The bovan browns are now in with the old girls and although still very wary of them are mixing in pretty well.
