hatching eggs
« on: March 22, 2008, 09:19 »
Its day 17 of my new venture of hatching eggs. I placed 18 eggs ( Cochins & Brahmas) from ebay and two white star/ white leghorn eggs that came from our own flock into our new incubator and today in day 17. I have candled on day 8 and removed 4 non fertile and again yesterday. It looks like a good percentage are 'live' Definately our own two eggs are as there is a lot of movement to be seen through the white shell.
I've charged the camera batteries so fingers crossed that all goes ok.

How do you deal with problem chicks? Do you let nature take its course?
Happiest in the countryside.
Breathe deeply, and let the butterflies fly in formation!

I agree that it is risky to help the chick out of the shell but I had to do it a couple of times last year and the chicks have grown up to be healthy and fine  :D
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

I sometimes help a chick but not very often. I think nature has a way of dealing with weakly specimens, they don't survive.
