Scabbers has an abscess.

Scabbers is my son's pet rat, he is roughly 3 months old. He has an abscess on his neck and is on antibiotics (baytril), I have to bathe the area to help the muck come out. Does anyone have any tips for me? It is quite difficult to do this on a rat that wont stay still. 

Can you swaddle him by wrapping him up in a towel (or a tea towel) so he can't move his legs? Works with a rabbit and they have sharp teeth too!

That reminds me, I used to use one of those hooded baby towels for out cat when trying to give her meds. 

I try and swaddle him but he can climb out due to where the abscess is. It sure is a challenge.

Does picking him up by the scruff of his neck make him go like pups & kittens go-limp? when Mum picks them up or is that where the abscess is? Don't want to hurt him. Get him to hold on to a stick by his front paws & lift him up,then someone else bathe the area.
