Roses and cooch grass
« on: May 20, 2008, 16:04 »
Hi, We planted some roses on our patch but despite digging over and getting all visible roots the dreaded cooch (sp?) has returned and is pretty much smothering my poor roses  :(

We were thinking about digging between the roses and getting the roots up again but were wondering how close to the roses we can get in without damaging their roots?  :?

Hmm this is probably one of those unanswerable without seeing it q's   , if it helps these are roses bought and planted this year and are very small still!

Thanks,
Becca

I know there has been a long debate about Glyforsate But in your case I see no reason not to use it. Cover each plant within a plastic bag down to the ground. you dont have to buy Roundup it is expensive look up on Google for glyphorsate there are several brands. and good luck

Ohh thanks for the tip :) I'm sure we have some glyphorsate in the shed that my OH has been using since we took on the new plot so we'll give it a go thanks!

I have a lot of roses and a lot of couch. I wait until after a good rain to go out and carefully pull as much couch roots as I can. The soft wet ground gives them up easily.

Thanks for that :) I'll attack soon as the skies decide to be nice to us!
We've been begging for rain for a few weeks now and got nothing other than a few drops :(

If the rest of the UK is anything to go by, you'll get rain soon enough, more than you'll ever want
