i was short of some glazing clips when putting up a greenhouse at my lottie the other day (the sort that go between 2 panes to stop one sliding down the other.the little s shaped things) anyway i found a good solution on some wine bottles. they had aluminium collars around the bottle neck.
easy to cut off with  old scissors, easy to bend to shape and aluminium so no rot
might help you out if you have the same problem
