Bulbs in pots
« on: October 09, 2016, 10:11 »
I am working on having lots of colour this spring. I have bought lots of bulbs for home and allotment.  I have put daffodils and tulips in pots outside.  Do I need to water them. I have also done some pots in my greenhouse hyacci s again should I be watering them. If we get really cold weather should I bring them in out of the frost. Thanks

For the daffs and tulips, they will be rooting out into the compost, so yes you do need to water now and then while the weather is still mild.

There is no need to bring them in however cold it gets.  Early warmth will just push them into flower early and then you won't get the benefit of them in the garden.

For the hyancinths, yes to the occasional water, but whether you keep them inside or not depends on what you want to do with them.  Are they for indoor forcing or outdoor flowering next spring?   If you want them for next spring, shove them outside as well  :)
