We're going to Spain, self-catering in the Alpujarras for ten days. Looking forward to buying stuff from the local markets and cooking accordingly.

There's obviously a limit on how many cookbooks we can take!!

At moment it's two paperbacks - Claudia Roden's Mediterranean Cookery, and Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food. Have also downloaded four recipes from Rick Stein's Spain series.

Any suggestions for things we must cook while we're there? This is probably a one off, as we wouldn't normally be able to afford a jaunt like this!

What a fantastic place to visit. I only read about it in the book driving over lemons    I think you needn't worry about cookery books at all. I think the produce available will determine entirely what you cook, so I think winging it would be a good plan

Your self catering place is bound to have some outdoor cooking facilities. Combine that with local sheep and goat, locally-grown produce, bread and wine and the Alpujarras is your oyster    I think the food there, from what I've read, will be fab. Lucky you

My thoughts exactly - you may find you rarely do any cooking. Salads and deli food may be all you fancy in the heat

Make an authentic spanish omelette at least,  gampas pil pil as a starter.

I agree with making it up as you go along with the beautiful ingredients you will no doubt be able to buy, but

They had snow there a couple of weeks ago!

We were nearly snowed in up in Yorkshire in March, but Spain!!!
