What's the first veg or flower you plant or sow?

What's the first veg or flower your plant when the weather warms up. I'll be planting my sarpo mira and kestrels potatoes, and sow some bumblebee friendly flowers in a tub on my allotment. ;)

Garlic, shallots and onions. I've got brassicas out that I planted last back end. I have done a small sowing of carrots and spring onions, and a few peas, before the snow arrived.  I only did a small amount so it's not a disaster if they don't come through. Both are covered so hopefully they will be all right.

My potatoes are chitting nicely. I cant wait to get them in. My strawberries came in the post last week and are sitting in small pots waiting to for the ground to warm up. I keep meaning not to buy plants online as they turn up at inconvienient times. The weather is always too bad! :(

The first things to go in the ground direct will be parsnips and spuds. Parsnips might be sooner if I can be bothered to make paper pots, but I'm planning on growing about 100 this year and that's a lot of pots!

My garlic went in last year, does that count! I've got some broad beans planted and a quick furtle the other day showed they've germinated. Hardy things they are.

I've got a lot of stuff already going in an unheated greenhouse - onion sets, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli and calabrese.

There's also Aubergine, Toms and Peppers on the windowsill inside. If it doesn't warm up by 4 weeks from now I'm going to have a lot of sad seedlings.

Moi taters go in first, followed by moi onions innit!

My first year on a plot, so the potatoes (all of them) will go in first, followed swiftly by my onions (white and red), and then I'll see how things are weatherwise before considering my beans (broad and french).

Well . . . that is the Master Plan anyway!

Broad bean seeds, followed by parsnip seeds.
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

In Devon. Cold but not under snow. Put carrots in 6 weeks ago but no sign of anything. Plenty in coldframe- cabbage, broad beans, onions etc.. but waiting for the weather- trying to be patient to plant out and sow but difficult as have a week off next week!

Leeks are lurking in the spare (unheated) room and will hopefully go into the greenhouse soon.  Oca being potted on as soon as they start to chit.  Really looking forward to being able to get the tatties out.  May sow my cleriac, winter radish and some cabbage this weekend in anticipation of more clement weather.  :)

The sowing season starts the year before in late summer when I sow overwintering onion seed direct in the bed.  Garlic (and onion sets if I was too late for seed but this time have decided to do neither) goes in autumn.  Then from February I sow chillies indoors followed by onion from seed (some varieties you can't get sets).  Thereafter I wait until mid-March before sowing anything else but I've held back this year and will do it this weekend - cabbages, sprouts, early sprouting broccoli, calabrese, lettuce and some herbs will all be done in pots at home to plant out later, also tomatoes and basil for the greenhouse.  I usually sow broad beans direct early-mid March but it looks like I need to sow them in pots about now to plant out later.

Planting on the plot in early spring usually starts off with potatoes, onions from sets and shallots.  The shallots went in first this year as the soil was warmer and drier near the surface but I wasn't expecting snow though I'm not too worried as they are more hardy .  Last year I was very late planting onions and despite the wet weather, was the best I've ever planted so I'm going to be patient.  I'll also wait for the soil to warm up before planting the potatoes and then sow some peas, carrots and turnips direct.
