Too early for Strawberries???
« on: March 02, 2019, 10:08 »
Is it too early to put strawberries in?
I ordered a soft fruit collection from T &M whilst it was on offer a few months back. It arrived this week raspberries blueberries gooseberries and straws. All have been watered well and put in pots for now but I wondered if it was too early to put strawbs in the ground.
Everything else in pots because i have only recently moved in and the area for the soft fruit isn't ready yet as i need a new fence and don't want it all trampled on by the fencers. However I had started a strawberry patch. Currently (sorry for the pun!!!  ) they are all in 1 pot waiting to go in
Any thoughts
Thanks

"Bung 'em in"!  Strawberries are frost tolerant.  I've just moved my strawberry bed after 3 years to another plot.  The plants were in plastic pots during the cold weather.  Don't forget, it's best to allow the plants to establish and strengthen by removing the first years flowers (I know it's a temptation to leave them on).  This will result in a better crop next year

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
