Hi what is the opinion of using fibre pots for thinning tomatoes and other transplants into for direct planting into the soil. I have hundreds of plastic pots of several sizes but am thinking about the possibility of just planting pot and all. Do the roots o the plants find their way through these things easily?

For me, hopeless - those with moister soil may have fared better...

I do all my beans and sweetcorn in cardboard posts. With my wet clay based soil the roots have no problems breaking through and the pots themselves rot down very quickly. I know others like to use newspaper pots for the same job.

Not in dry or sandy soil, as others have said. I find the pots dry out too quickly before planting, while the plants are still growing, as well....
