I've been growing these on and off for years now and have never had any issues.

This year however, a few have gone to seed already (probably the weird weather I'm sure), but also some of the them have split and produced 2 small onions - a bit like shallots do.

I have never known this with these onions - anyone else seen anything like this?

Do you think it might be weather related or duff sets? 

I took out 10 of 40 sets - the rest seem ok.
Obviously the flowering ones haven't produced much of a usable bulb as expected but the splitting and producing of 2 onions is bizarre to me!

I have exactly the same happening to mine! Same variety...

A couple of mine have done that, and they are Setton.

5 out of 70 odd threw up a flower stalk ten days ago, and one has split into two. No more bolters since, touch wood. Wouldn't want any more than that. My first time with Stuttgarter and am otherwise very pleased with their growth. Only one flower stalk on my Turbo onions. Also doing well. neither have been watered.

I have never had onion bolt early or split into 2 before?

Ive had a couple of stuttgarter bolt up to now but ive not got many in,i was talking to the lad on the next plot he has sturon in and ten of them have bolted as well.
