4 New Girls at Long Last
« on: April 04, 2011, 15:30 »
Well after nearly a year of searching and phoning and e-mailing nearly every Large Fowl breeder with 100 miles of hear we eventually found one with some Orpington girls for sale

So on Saturday we set out on our 180ish mile round trip to collect them. So in addition to our 3 black Orpington Ladies - named April, May and June. We now have a buff called Ginger, a splash called Dusty, a blue called Bluebell and a gold Lace called Bumble.

They have settled in far better than we could have wished for, only arguments have been over treats! So they might have to stop for a while.

Hubby said there is room for at least 7 more, when he put them to bed last night, I said think the 7 we have are enough. But would you believe it that 3 of the breeders I e-mailed and had heard nothing from all e-mailed this morning to say nothing at the moment but we some hatching any day now.
One such breeder is very close to us here too - like buses, nothing then 3 come along at once.

Dare I consider more............

Good on you!  I want pictures, please!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Here are some photo's.  I hope this album works for people.  The new ones were a little feather-pecked but they are growing replacements already and are settling in really quickly.

Oh they're gorgeous!  April, May and June are really glamorous ladies with all those lovely feathers!  But I have to admit my favourite photo is little Bumble - who seems to have misplaced her tail feathers.

Yes Bumble is some what lacking in the tail department. But even in the 5 days we have had her, we can see new feathers growing, and we have seen no evidence of feather pecking at all (plenty of pecking order pecking  ::) )

April May and June, do look very splendid this year - they had just come into moult when we got them last June, so we couldn't appreciate just how lovely they were going to look.

I will post some more pictures of Bumble as her tail returns .

All I need now is a Lemon Cuckoo Orp - thats my favourite and the one I can't fine anywhere  :(
