Thank you Chrissie it looks great, I've made one but I never ice or marzipan it as OH doesn't like it, he just cuts it of  so I think it's a waste of time, not only that I've cut mine in half this year and given my mum half  :D

Looks lovely! No one in my family eats Christmas cake (including me) so I never get to do the pretty decoration thing. I have done my usual 2 large Christmas puddings (one for his family on Christmas day and one for mine on Boxing Day) but they don't really look very interesting to photograph do they!

I used to do the fancy icing and themed cakes such as the Snowman and one year I made the cake like a cut tree trunk with three drunk robins on the cake but we don't really like the icing any more so cover with marzipan and then top with nuts and glace cherries instead.

I don't normally bother with icing, but we have a marzipan enthusiast with us this year.  I'm quite pleased with it, it is the first time I have used the roll-out icing.  And I made some place names with the leftover icing.

well keep up the good work , mary berry did an alternative to the fruit cake it was a madera base and she kept the parchment on the sides and poured in loads of ganash and decorated with coloured leaves , looked nice .
