for making fizzy water. any one worked out the cost per litre how much do you have to drink until it pays for itself

Now that the main supermarkets all do their basics/economy fizzy water for 17p per two litre bottle, I'm not sure a sodastream could compete. The only benefit I could see is if you don't use a 2 litre bottle up quickly enough for it not to loose its fizz towards the end - obviously the sodastream bottles are much smaller so you can just make up the amount you want. However, the way we go through fizzy water in this house, that's not a problem I have to contend with!!

Not sure in that case! I usually get mine from Sainsbury's, Tesco or Asda - they all sell it for 17p

I think, it depends on how much you have to pay for the gas cylinders and how long they last. We got hold of an old-fashioned soda syphon a while back, the kind your parents used to have

and apart from the gas cylinders becoming increasingly difficult to source, the cost of them was becoming prohibitive.

We go through a lot too and I buy it in 6 packs of 500 ml, currently about �1.50 in T*sco and about �1.60 in C*-op (my only two choices of shop).
