If you have self raising flour you could use that instead

Yes, I believe so.

1 cup self-raising flour
1 cup semi-skimmed milk
1 free-range egg
1 pinch sea salt

According to Doves Farm, if you add 3 tsp bicarb of soda with 4 tsp of cream of tartar and shake well, you've made baking powder, and to make self raising flour you add 1 tsp baking powder to 200g plain flour.

Interesting variation on the baking powder recipe.

I use one part baking soda, one part cornstarch and two parts cream of tartar. Blend well.

Once combined, the shelf life is greatly reduced so just make small quantities.

Baking soda is pure (alkaline) sodium bicarbonate and requires contact with an acidic liquid such as milk or yoghurt to produce a chemical reaction, baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate and other ingredients including an acidifying agent.

I use your basic recipe but add 3 to 4 eggs to make more of a flatter crepe recipe. Lovely slathered with homemade jam.

I use Delia Smith's recipe on the BBC website....http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/basicpancakeswithsuga_66226

Very simple and my GF likes the butter through them.  That's breakfast plans sorted, thanks for bringing them up MoreWhisky!
