I have a recipe for shortbread which includes rice flour.
I couldn't find this at the supermarket. Is it the same as ground rice?
-
yes my dear, tis one and the same!

Yep, thats what i use, shortbread just isn't the same without ground rice. You can even use semolina at a push :)
-

Rice flour such as the Doves farm variety has been ground more so is finer and tends to be a mixture of brown and white rice. The ground rice is coarser so is more suitable for puddings or foods requiring texture.

As Kegs says its much finer ( I have both ground rice and rice flour here 8) )
If you have an Asian supermarket locally you should find rice flour in there. I ordered mine online from the spice supplier I've posted links.

Thanks all :D
I did get the ground rice, couldn't find the flour in the supermarket. Might try the asian supermarket for it at some point though :)

Tesco Extra sell Doves Farm rice flour, £1.75/kg
-
That's useful to know Tosca - I was in a T's Extra when looking for it in both the flour and dessert sections. I'll look for it in the gluten free section next time I'm in, but it may be that this store doesn't actually stock it :(

I got the very last bag of rice flour at our tescos as I was making chocolate and beetroot brownies tonight in an attempt to get oh to eat beetroot...... It worked ;)
-
So, you got my rice flour >:( ;)
Mmmm cake.
I intended to make the shortbread this evening. Got the butter out of the fridge to let it soften, put the heater on in the kitchen so it would soften.
And it's now 930pm and I've only just remembered the preparation I did a couple of hours ago. Oh well, I'll put the butter back in the fridge until later in the week! ::)

Tip: You could put ground rice in the blender to make it finer, as one does with granulated sugar to make it castor! ::)
PS. Don't forget to put the lid on BEFORE turning the blender on :tongue2:
