Our hen is hatching out fertile eggs today and one chick is buff with a wide dark brown stripe on its head and travelling down its back. Does anyone know what kind of chick this is? We also have a black chick and a yellow chick. So excited! Two more eggs to go!

Is it a pure breed or hybrid?
1. Welsummer?
2. Babcock Browns (hybrids)

Thank you for replying! It looks just like the chicks in your pictures. It is not a pure bred - father is a Cochin. He is running with Leg Horns, Orpingtons, Speckledys and Warrens (I think). All five have hatched out now and they all look different! He must have been a busy boy!

In that case, you could have invented a new breed!
It could be from any of those hens, but warrens are the most closely related to the babcock browns which is my 2nd picture.
It will be interesting to see how they all turn out! Hope they are not all cockerals!
