black potato stems
« on: July 17, 2008, 20:52 »
Just checked my potato plants and some of the stems (high up near the top of the plants mostly) have gone black and mouldy - i have removed these parts but dont know what they are - could it be black leg (which according to the book i have happens at the base of the plant) or blight?
Other than that they look healthy

Does anyone know what this is? Thank you
just keep breathing................

Hi Titch, I don't know anything about blackleg I'm afraid, but when my potatoes got blight last year, it started off on the leaves, then the stem went black and mushy, so it doesn't sound like blight to me.
