Title: Found a worm :(
Post by: newChickenMummy on November 29, 2009, 10:15
Hi guys  :)

I found what I think was a worm this morning in my little Honey's poo  it was white and thin about 3 inches long. Thing is I wormed them all with Flubenvet a couple of months ago.

I have 3 girls so gave them one scoop between the 3 girls over 7 days mixed in with their food. I didn't give any extras during the week to make sure they ate all their pellets.

Did I do something wrong? Not enough maybe? Is it safe to worm them again?

Its funny because they all look so healthy at the moment and all are laying so I'm really surprised, I thought I would have noticed something was up with them  :(

Cheers
Liz

So where's the photograph Liz ?

If it was a 3" worm it would be an Ascaridia species which is very common.  If it was a dead one than it was probably killed by the flubenvet.  I don't think you need to worm them again !

Doh! I didn't think to take one!

It wasn't moving so I guess it must have been dead? If it was alive would it have wriggled around like an earthworm?

Just googled for images of Ascaridia and it looked exactly like them, a thin bit of spaghetti!

I'll stop worrying now then, just been out and searched through all their poos but didn't see any more  what a lovely way to spend a sunday afternoon, dissecting chicken poo!

Thanks Auntie  :tongue2:
