My sweetcorn has been ver prolific but it does not seem to be quite ready yet. The tassles have gone brown but the kerels don't seem juicy enough. Should I harvest them or will they improve? :?:  I though it might be a bit cold for them now.

I'm in the same boat. I have grown/am growing a South African variety of white maize with what appears to be an excessively long growing season for the UK climate, and wonder just how long I can leave them growing. My mielies grow very tall (over 12ft) and the tassles are a beautiful red colour. When blown gently by the breeze they talk back to me with their seductive, rasping voices. That's one of my favourite times to be in the garden. I once heard an author/farmer talk of his maize plantation as being like a 'green cathedral'. I know what he meant.

At a guess I'd say you may be ok till the 1st frost's as long as the weathers not too wet, my last few are looking rather poor and they seem to have a little beetle in the cobs

Hi there Im in the same boat too - cobs are smallish but reasonably formed but kernals are still white and mine were the early varieties! wish it was :sunny:

It sounds to me as though the unusual seasonal weather has caused a lot of us to have the same problem then. I may just have to harvest the odd one and see what it tastes like then. thanks for your replies.
