Losing feathers around the neck.
« on: June 12, 2009, 10:00 »
Hi there, our White Star hen has recently started losing a lot of feathers from around her neck, so much so that you can see her skin through it.  We also have a Speckled and Blue hen which are fine.  The hens are just about 14 months old now, could this been the first sign of moulting?  Any advice please!  Thanks

If they have not moulted fully before and are 14 months old then I would say moult.
Chucks have partial moults and one full moult a year.

Things to check.
Creepy crawlies on her in her feathers
That she is not being pecked.

I think unless you see them doing it the idea wouldn't occur to most people  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
