Will leeks keep growing?

Had the first leek I've ever grown with my dinner tonight - very nice. It was just an expriment at the end of last year - I only grew about twelve but started them off too late. So I have about 5 more that are reasonably normal size but the rest are like spring onions.

How long will they stay OK in the ground and will they get any bigger as the spring approaches?

Yes they will get bigger, but sadly only as they go to seed and start growing a central flower stalk.

If they get to that stage, you can cut it out and use the rest, but they will start to get less tender.
