remember planting also depends on where you live.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Absolutely it does- as anyone in Scotland can probably attest!
I think I'll be safe enough in London though.

I'm chitting potatos, and sweet potatos, and just planted onions and garlic in my latest veg bed...
You are brave to admit you have planted onions! :D

Isn't it the right time to plant onions? I did double check on here before I planted them and followed the instructions on the packet...

I have planted onion seeds, ( now a couple of inches high)
3 differnt varieties of Lavander ( Early this year, because the rabbits ate all last years which were small when they went into the ground - just need to get the grass up and flower bed preped)
Echinacea are up too
Planted Aubergine and Tomatillo last night in heated propagator.

All sat in front of the French doors in the lounge - no show home here!

There have been a few posts on this. Some are planting, some are erring on the side of caution and are waiting.

The only thing I will say is that if you read the books, they generally say shallots go in a month before sets.

Subject to the weather and available time being with me, I go with shallots in February, sets in March. Shallots will stand a cold snap better than sets.

If we don't get a cold snap, you'll be OK. However.................
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've got my onion sets in (have been for a couple of weeks) One lot with fleece over, the other just netting to keep birds off, they both look fine at the mo.

When should I plant my garlic?, it's just started to sprout in the (unheated) greenhouse. Do I need to give it a while longer to get going, or does it need the coldnest of the ground outside to split properly?

I'd get it in now, Jome
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You need to get the garlic in as soon as you can really. They benefit from a good spel of frost as this helps them to form a bulb.

It may help if I couls spell, spell!

I am going to sow some carrot seed today, early nantes. I will cover them with fleece though.  Once that is done I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and sing 'la la la I'm not listening'. Just in case anyone tells me it's too early!

Dead right! If they don't do anything, or the weather turns grim, no biggie... there's always a later sowing. Carrot seed packets usually offer more seed than a person needs anyway, and it doesn't keep too well, according to the realseeds website anyway.

So far I've sown chilli and onions. I'm itching to get onto other things but with the weather and time constraints i've not got the ground ready yet. Its under black plastic warming up though.

About the carrot seed. I use realseeds a lot, and I've noticed they've recently changed the instructions on keeping carrot seed. The website (and the literature they send out- i have it right here) says that you may as well sow the whole lot because unlike many veg "carrot seed won't keep for next year"- but they've recently changed the site to say it keeps for 2 years.
Which is nice, because i still have leftover seed from last year i was going to do a germination test with. Now i can do it more confidently

Guide to seed longevity here:

John gives them 3 years and I've certainly had sucess with "old" packets. As they will store I have no intention of sending mine to an early grave.

My version of an early grave is under nice potting compost. I've lost count of the number of very out of date seed packets i've had great success with!
