Elephant appreciation visit ..Pics **new pic added* *
« on: September 10, 2012, 20:38 »
A few of you expressed an interest in seeing some elephant pictures from my visit to an elephant appreciation evnt at the West Midlands Safari Park. I went yesterday and had a great time. First off was a talk and then a chance to feed and Elephant with a carrot. I got to throw the carrot into it's mouth and then pat it.
The elephant in the picture is called Five, a twenty year old girl, who lives with anothe twenty year old. (Can't remember the name!).
The next bit was the bathtime. Five thouroughy hosed down with a jetwashed (Whitch she loved), then, on being let out to her paddock, she proceeded to wash herself down with dirt!!

I really enjoyed it, and would love to see elephants in the wild, but I shall have to be content with this for now.  :D

They look lovely, sounds a great experience. I would love to feel what an elephants trunk feels like, you know that thing they do with their trunk when they 'feel'you with it.

Thanks everyone, There were three keepers on hand to make sure nothing went wrong, and Five conveniently opend her mouth so you could throw the carrot in. I suppose they can never be sure how the elephant will react to individuals.
Snowdrops, I would think that would tickle, they did seem to have lots of sensitivity in their trunks.  :D

Thanks all, I certainly wouldn't want to clear up after them

here i am just after lobbing a piece of carrot down Five's throat!  The keeper said it was a good shot, but then I  have had plenty of practice throwing treats at dogs.

They are wonderful. My cousin lives down the road from an elephant orphanage in Nairobi, and that was a fabulous visit.

I've been there!

I went with OH the year before last for a special anniversary and it was the most amazing holiday ever.
