Title: Local show
Post by: mosser on September 12, 2012, 12:16
There is a local show coming up soon.  Thought I would enter yellow tomatoes ( Golden Sunrise) and some runner beans ( Streamline).       What am I looking for in my crop to get the best results?

your toms all need to be the same size, with no blemishes, they are normally shown on a plate of sand and they also need to have some stem attached (their is a name for it, but ive forgot  ::))

the runners again all need to be the same size, with no blemishes, and the also need a clean snap with no string - as the judge will snap them to test for freshness and 'stringyness'  ;)

Make sure you leave the calyx on the tom's and cut the bean's off the vine with scissors leaving the stalk on the bean's.

Concentrate on condition and uniformity above all. No bean bulge if you can avoid it on the runners....best to have some fresh looking pods 12" long than waiting to see if you can get longer ones that go out of condition.

Golden Sunrise is not an easy variety to match up so best of luck on that one.
