I am picking up a load of unwanted chicks (I don't know how many or age) at the end of the week, some of them are pekins. I guess they will all turn out to be boys but if not I hope to keep a few.
I have always loved they way they look, their broody nature appeals too as I don't have an incubator.
Please tell me all about them as I am just a little bit excited!!

I have 3 little buff pekins hatched at Easter and raised by my silkie. They are delightful. The boy is so feisty, 11 weeks old and chases the cats the length of the garden. They have fitted into my motley little flock and are great fun to watch. Not sure how long I can keep the boy as I expect he'll clash with my two sabelpoot boys once his hormones kick in. They are beautiful birds, such a lovely shape and so fluffy.

The chicks are here, they look healthy except for two with very mucky bottoms. They are mainly pekins/feathered legs bantam types. Will get some pics tomorrow.

Poppy had feathered legs, so sometimes I would have to wash the mud balls off them. She did not like to be handled, but did like her clean legs.

I have just had to do that this morning for my 2 broodies who have chicks.  Not because of feathers, their legs do suffer from sitting and they get bed sores so I bathe their legs/feet and apply Vaseline.  They do grumble but I know it makes them feel better.

The breeder I got mine from told me it was OK to trim leg feathers - I haven't done this yet and may not do - any thoughts on that?

never did Poppy's, the others had leg mite when I took them on, but Poppy and Nugget didn't.
