Nicky, all the information you require is on here somewhere. :thumright:

A starting point for you will be the Poultry Information section. Have a look through that and then, if there's something more specific you need to know, then folks will be queing up to answer your questions. :D

Hi Nicky

Will you be keeping them at home or on an allotment?
Also will they be free - range or in a run?
Like Bodger said there's loads of info on the information pages that will help and Rob is a dab hand when it comes to measurements per bird etc...

As a quick guide house for Ducks 2sq ft per bird and height of 3ft, and for a hen house a general guide 7 birds per 10 sq feet.
The more room you can give the better :D

Hi Nicky. You're doing it the best way by gathering the info first.

Hope to see you back with a long list of questions soon  :D

Hi I have tried searching but there are far too many posts that come up without the info I want maybe I am searching wrong who knows!

Ok I will be keeping them at home because I am no allowed to have them on my plot.

I would like to know if they can be housed together or not? What the best amount of each to get is I have heard it is best to get 3 ducks as minimum but may have this wrong? Is t the same for chickens?

Sorry for all the questions many thnks Nicky

Nicky Don't appologize for asking questions that's what we're here for :D

Three of each is a great number to start off with, and yes they can live togeather, well mine have in the past.
I have a 4x6 shed the hen's go on the perches and I put a rabbit hutch at the back with no door on for the ducks.
This was fine for me as at the time I only had Call ducks which are real small :D

I have just one other question are you after them for pets or really just for eggs?
I only ask as certain breeds of duck are better for eggs than others, my Call's are real friendly & compact but ain't that good at laying
Once we know whether its for eggs as the main & pets 2nd or if you just want them as pets then we'll be able to suggest the right breeds for you :)
Everyone has their favorite so you'll get plenty of info

This is the link Bodger ment to to have a read at :)

What sort of area do you have available for them Nicky ?

you have choices of free-ranging around your garden or keeping them in a run (fixed or moveable).

Hi i have a secure garden so they can free range if need be or they can go in a run if thats better as their are lots of cats around my way and I have been told that even my own cat has been seem with a rabitt in his mouth!

Not sure how cats, ducks and chickens get on really?

Also do I ned a cockrell is that a silly question?

You only need a cockerel if you want fertile eggs.

How big is the area roughly ??

We have ours in a fixed run though most people try to let their birds roam free. You can protect them with an electric fence or if you make a fixed run, you can use welded mesh to protect them.

Lots of things to decide on. have a good read on here and see if you can find any threads that may help. :)
But keep asking.
