Butter nut Squash Question

I have two BNS plants variety Avalon
One has several squashes on it and the other is just starting
the biggest squash on the first is about 6 to 7 inches long, on the packet thet are a nich Orange colour but on the plant they are striped light green.

the question is. will they stop growing and then Ripen to Orange
or will they just get bigger and bigger like courgettes

I have some squashes that came out earlier in the year and were light green striped, they grew and grew and not long after they stopped growing they have a slight hint of orange, so I guess they are now ripening.

I have someother plants in the same row where the squashes are only about 2" long, don't understand why some grew so rapidly and others trailed behind???

They will ripen to an orange colour. When they do ripen, remember to cut them off with a good length of stem, or it can encourage rot ( apparently )

I've got quite a few going at the moment, the biggest is about the size of a fist.
