they make strong plants for in or out....BUT imo they are quite tasteless, you could make much better choices.

Good, reliable, failsafe bland tomato.  I only grow it to make green tomato chutney.
Cheese makes everything better.

Gardeners delight do ok outside and are a better flavour.
Sweet million or 100`s & 1000`s are great toms for youngsters. :)

I have got one Shirley F1 Tom plant that there is no space in my G/House for.
How will this do on the plot?
Thanks FB

I have grown a spare Shirley against a warm shed wall and it produced well. Just need sun and no blight !
I don`t know how they do in 'the open' on an allotment.

I  don't like moneymaker either, as said bland tasting.

On the other hand it's one of the most reliable croppers/ripeners.
As it's for the kids and it's your first attempt i would get them, nothing worse than a crop not comming good when you've put alot of effortin and the kids have watched it grow, so i would say they're your best bet.

They will taste far better than the rubber balls you get from a supermarket anyhow so i say go for it  ;)

I would say go for it. I grew moneymaker last year outside with good results and I am doing the same this year.

You can always try a different variety next year.
Please be patient! Learner gardener - allow plenty of room when passing!

I grew Moneymaker for years considering them a "stalwart", and only compared the flavour to Supermarket Toms that I would have had available too. But then I grew a different variety alongside and realised how bland they were. Suggest you grow something else, not sure the kids will be impressed with Moneymaker!

"Great marketing name, shame about the taste ..."
