New batteries for a battery drill.

Hello everybody,
just received 2 new NiMh batteries for my drill. Popped one on charge and shortly after (about 30 minutes) the light changed from red to green, question is I thought the batteries took quite a while on initial charge.

Any knowledeable persons out there like to ease my quandary?

Li-ion batteries are normally supplied part-charged, sounds like your NiMh batteries were too.

NiMh batteries used to have a 'memory' and needed more care with the discharge/charge cycle, but the latest ones should be OK in that respect (the instructions should make that clear...

)
