Morning all  have managed to to get a 6x4 off freecycle, hopefully pick it up tomorrow or wk/end, any advice/tips on how i should go about laying the base(will be going on an area that is grassed at the moment but that will be coming up) many thanks

(First job is to decide whether you want a solid floor, or borders and a path, and also whether you want to increase the overall height by constructing a raised base.)

We got our greenhouse of freecycle too I used breezeblocks as a base, bricks would do fine also. If anything breezeblocks have made my greenhouse a little on the tall side. Make up the bottom of the frame so you have a footprint to work with then make up a bucket of mortar mix to seal the bricks or breezeblocks together. I levelled the base with a spirit level and long piece of wood. Then painted the bricks green. You could get away with using wood as the base if you dont have bricks and just stake the wood into the ground and screw it to the horizontals after levelling. I hope that helps

If you have left over sand and cement you could make a small pathway within the greenhouse. If not fill the floor with stones which you can soak on hot days to keep the humidity up and stop things getting too dry.

Careful transporting the glass as it can be expensive, about £5 ish a piece. Wilkos is good for the greenhouse glass clips and bolts/nuts if you find yourself missing any. Also have a think about staging in your greenhouse to make use of the space

certainly is for gratis!!  needs some glass but i have a friend who does stained glass resto so he can get me some clear panes, did have breeze blocks lined up from freecycle too but he's given them away after saying i could have them, oh well!! onward and upward

Get some treated 4x4 fence post's and use them as a base. Mine are still going strong after 4 year's and if 1 rot's it is easy to slide it out and replace it.

I was going to secure my new GH to a flagged base with anchors.  However, after taking ages to get the base all level I drilled the holes to accomodate the anchors to find that they just pulled free??     Wasn't a happy camper at all.

So we scrapped the idea and dug a hole at each corner for the base ground spikes to be set into.  Solid as a rock now   Much easier than initially attempted. 

I now have a flagged pathway inside.  One side of the flags has chipped slate and the other side is bare to accomodate grow bags etc.

i recycled mine from my old garden fence but you could try a fencing firm. They have to dispose of their old one's.
