Onion beds
« on: August 04, 2012, 23:42 »
In the past i have heard of onion beds being used year after year..
I have took most of my onions out now no disease found .
Are there any other reasons to rotate if you feed the area to put back the neutrents taken out by the crop.?

Have a look at Robinson's Mammoth Onion website for using beds for onions every year.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Have a look at Robinson's Mammoth Onion website for using beds for onions every year.

If I recall a previous (probably a year or two ago) thread on here, their website still recommends using Jeyes fluid as a soil sterilant.  Which of course has been illegal for some years now.  I lost any confidence in their advice at that point.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Have they altered the chemicals in Jeyes fluid because you can still purchase it?

You can still purchase it but, as was always the case, it is only licensed for certain uses.

You can no longer use it as a soil sterilisant.  The licence for that was withdrawn some years ago.  It is illegal to use a product for herbicidal or biocidal if it is not licensed for that use.  Hence the advice on here that we cannot condone the illegal use of products - i.e. for unlicensed purposes.

It never was a great use of Jeyes' Fluid to be honest, as it kills off everything includng earthworms and beneficial bacteria  ???
