Replanting new potatoes ...
« on: May 13, 2012, 12:42 »
I've found a comment somewhere, which mentions that it is just possible to lift a root of new spuds, take off the veg, and immediately replant it for another crop.

Apparently, you have to be pretty quick, but presumably, if the root structure remains intact, it just might work!

Anyone tried this ever?

I really need the ground for another crop, but if there are a few more 'new' spuds on offer again, well, it might just change my mind...

...or Mrs Growster's...;0)

It's usually recommended to furtle the spuds you want and leave the rest to grow on rather than lifting/replanting them.
Are you sure the comment wasn't about replanting some tubers in 60 days time to grow some late season 'earlies'

Mum. if you'll allow this link, http://www.garden.org/foodguide/browse/veggie/potatoes_harvesting/574, it explains all!

When you think about it, 60 days is not that long a time...

Roughly 2 months!!

Never heard that one either, but can't try it as I'm not growing potatoes this year.

Not a long time is it Gran!

My local ironmonger chum used to say that he would 'slaughter', the first row, and get the benefit of very small, but expensive earlies, the remainder of which caught up by the time he was at the end! (probably a 60' row from memory).
