icing and marzipan
« on: December 24, 2012, 14:12 »
I've got some marzipan and fondant icing that I bought for my Christmas cake, which I never got around to making, but then OH went and bought a ready iced one.

Any ideas, not too complicated (because if I didn't get around to making a cake I'm probably not going to get around to that), on what I can make with bought marzipan and icing, before Christmas day.

No suggestions?! I'm surprised at you all!

Perhaps you've got better things to do on Christmas Eve :)

No, just can't think of anything else apart from topping a cake

Has it got a long enough life to just keep it until the next birthday?

I would suggest you keep it for another occasion. It will keep a while as long as it is still sealed. But....

If you like marzipan, you could try dipping small bits in chocolate to have around for those need-to-have-something-sweet moments.

One thing we used to have as a kid was a roll of marzipan, studded with glace cherries, wrapped in puff pastry, shaped into a round or horse shoe, and water iced and scattered with more cherries and toasted almonds. It is what I will do with my left overs next week, before the healthy eating kicks in.

BALLS!  or more specifically baubles,  edible jobs to hang on the tree.

Cheers,   Tony.

tosca, the chocolate dip thing looks promising.  I like the idea of the pastry horseshoe, but realistically, I probably wouldn't get around to it.
Edible baubles is good but we haven't got a traditional tree this year. We've got a light up cherry tree instead.
Just looked at the packets, I've got till November 2013 for the icing and February 2014 for the marzipan!  So no rush  :)
