top dog or bully?
« on: August 27, 2010, 13:03 »
we have got 8 ex bat nens that we got on saturday, can anyone advise me please. i no that they will sort into a pecking order but the top bird Breamer, seems to be always chasing the lowest ranking girl, Edna. she is not doing any physical damage but Edna is sitting behind the gate in a small gap most of the time should i be worried.  Breamer chasers them all but the others just chase her back or run off. i have made sure she is getting to food and water. thanks jackie

Chickens are vicious b*ggers... you just have to grit your teeth and let them get on with things for a couple of weeks before things settle down.

Just keep some purple spray handy in case blood is drawn.

Early days, it will all settle down in a couple of weeks and the top hen will not bother chasing anyone.
She will still dish out some vicious pecks to any that challenge her but hens are tougher than they look.
Handle the lowest hen if possible and she will run to you for treats and protection, the bottom ranking hen can become teachers pet. :)

any place that sells equestrian supplies should sell it.
Staffies are softer than you think.
